IOM Lithuania: 175,000 euros for war refugees from Ukraine
International Organization for Migration Vilnius office (IOM Lithuania) provides one-time payments to cover multipurpose basic needs of Ukrainians fleeing the war. The total amount of payments reaches almost 175 thousand euros.
"Help for Ukrainians fleeing war continues to be needed, and research shows that the biggest barriers to coming to Lithuania are language barriers and financial deprivation. IOM Lithuania has a range of activities aimed at providing targeted assistance to Ukrainians. Financial benefits are one of them", says Eitvydas Bingelis, Head of IOM Lithuania.
As of January 2023, the benefit per person amounts to 157 euros, every other family member will receive additional 78.5 euros.
Special attention is paid to single-parent families with one or more children, pregnant women, persons aged 60-65 who have reached retirement age in Ukraine and find it difficult or impossible to get a job or work in Lithuania, as well as to victims of human trafficking.
Last year, €80,000 was allocated to war refugees from Ukraine in October-December, and this year two times more, bringing the total to €255,000.
Since the beginning of the war in Ukraine, more than 73 000 war refugees have arrived in Lithuania.
