IOM Lithuania: free English language courses for several hundred Ukrainians
International Organization for Migration (IOM Lithuania) organised free English language courses for Ukrainian citizens. 280 Ukrainians completed the course.
"Last year, we started organising free English language courses for Ukrainians who wanted to improve their skills or start learning a new language. Coming to a foreign country also requires new skills, and we saw that there was a demand for English language learning, so we focused on this activity. We have heard repeatedly that Ukrainians plan to return home as soon as it is safe to do so, but in the meantime they are improving their skills in Lithuania," says Eitvydas Bingelis, Head of IOM Lithuania.
The English language training course was delivered by specialists from the Baltic International School. The training was held in two groups for two months each, and participants were able to improve their existing knowledge or learn the basics of English.
In Lithuania, IOM’s Ukraine crisis response received financial support from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Refugees and Migrants.
IOM Lithuania has been actively providing assistance to war refugees since the beginning of the war in Ukraine. An emotional support line for Ukrainians has been running since October. Every day from 10 am to 8 pm, professional psychologists provide counselling in Ukrainian and Russian. Money is also provided for basic needs. In September and March, training was organised for psychologists and psychiatrists from Ukraine to help Ukrainians.
