IOM has had a presence in Lithuania since 1998.
Our WorkAs the leading inter-governmental organization promoting since 1951 humane and orderly migration, IOM plays a key role to support the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through different areas of intervention that connect both humanitarian assistance and sustainable development. Across Lithuania, IOM provides return assistance to home countries for migrants in difficult situations and provides return and reintegration assistance to victims of trafficking.

IOM Vilnius Office Presents Results of a Rapid Profiling Mission
In August 2021, an expert from International Organization for Migration (IOM) visited Lithuania and conducted a rapid profiling mission. Throughout the mission, IOM expert visited sites where third-country nationals, who irregularly crossed Lithuania-Belarus border, are accommodated. Personal interviews revealed different paths migrants used before reaching Lithuania, as well provided information about their education, family, economic situation, reasons for migration, and gave insights on the final goal of migrants' journey.
